LOOKING AT THE EXIT

I am offering an online support group titled LOOKING AT THE EXIT: SOUL WISDOM FOR THE JOURNEY’S END. In this group we will share our thoughts and feelings about the aging and saging process, and explore the developmental tasks of reviewing our life and letting go. We will look at the process of being close to death, and explore the insights around death from the world wisdom traditions and near death experiences.

AS I AGE

Even though my eyes are dim, I see more clearly now.

Even though my legs and back are stiff, I am more flexible now.

Even though I have lost much, I am more grateful now.

Even though I have seen death all around me, I am more alive than ever now.

Like an old tree, I bend and creek in the wind, but I do not break.

For the light within is stronger than the brightest full moon in the darkest sky.

LIFE REVIEW

One of the tasks of LOOKING AT THE EXIT is Life Review. We can review our life from many different perspectives. We can look at our developmental progression, or review peek experiences of our life. We can look at how the negative messages from our parents influenced our lives, and the growth we have done to overcome those negative messages. We can review our lives from the perspective of our spiritual evolution, our karma, or our social skillfulness. We can look at the knowledge we have gained, talents we have developed or see if our capacity  to love has grown. Life review is a rich topic to explore!

AGING AND SAGING

In many traditions growing older is associated with growing wiser.  We may be aware that this may happen, or it may NOT happen. So what can support us in becoming wiser? Or, what are some wholesome perspectives on life that can keep us from becoming angry, bitter, crotchety old people?  From the Buddhist tradition we are encouraged to accept that impermanence is a fact of life, that everything changes and ultimately ends. There are many other wholesome perspectives that we will explore in this group, and most of us hold a piece of this wisdom to be shared.

AGING AND FEAR

What is your biggest fear about growing older? Are you afraid of being a burden to your loved ones? Running out of money? Being bored and lonely? Being in a lot of pain? Feeling guilt about some of the ways you have treated people? In this group we will look at our fears and see if we can find a path to release them. This group will have a soft start in August and we will continue to add members until it feels full. Please consider joining us if you feel called.
