Morgan Le Fay is the stormy aspect of the Celtic triple goddess. Sometimes she would appear in the dark and windy weather as a phantom fairy queen. When flocks of ravens swooped down to the land, Morgan was near.
In this bird form she also carried the souls of the diseased to the underworld pool for rebirth. In these myths, the soul was housed in an apple, and the magical land of death and rebirth was known as Avalon, or Appleland.
