Voluspa is a Nordic ancient wise-woman goddess who was born before all things. She has the knowledge of all of history within her, has seen it all. Wise women and seers in the northern lands are called Voluspa in her honor, especially when they have psychic visions or retell the stories of the village.
In this painting two women are honoring the wisdom of the crone. This wise old woman has gained much experience in her life, both from solitude and introspection and engagement with the larger community. Her inner being is illuminated with the cycles of the moon. She knows well how to be with both waxing and waning life energies.
